On 11-13 June 2024, the Renewable Materials Conference (RMC), organised by the nova-Institute, took place in Cologne (Germany), gathering 450 participants to discuss innovative bio-based, CO2-based, and recycled alternatives to fossil-based materials.
This leading international event aims to provide answers to burning industry and policy questions: How to defossilise the chemical industry and remain competitive? How to meet the demand for fossil-free plastics?
The setting was the right place to showcase the CO2SMOS project, which has these very questions at its centre. The project was presented in the poster session, where Marian Blom, researcher at our consortium partner UvA, explained to visitors the research on new copolymers similar to the well-known plastic PET but incorporated 2,3-BDO, a bio-based building block that can be produced using CO2.
