Last week, Irene Cano Sanchez, Researcher at our consortium partner the Spanish Center for Biological Research (CIB), presented the CO2SMOS project at the 14th European Congress of Chemical Engineering and 7th European Congress of Applied Biotechnology.

The Ecce & Ecab 2023 took place from 17-21 September in Berlin, where scientists from industry, universities and research institutions from Europe and beyond met to discuss the latest research and industrial applications in all fields of chemistry, process engineering, biotechnology and related fields.

This highlight event for the European chemical engineering and biotechnology community was the perfect setting to showcase the CO2SMOS project and CIB-CSIC’s work on the biological production of 2,3-butanediol (2,3-BDO) in bacterial chassis. This innovative process, based on the use of sustainable feedstocks, offers a promising alternative for the production of this alcohol widely used by the chemical industry and currently derived from fossil fuels.
